Why I Created Period Bae: A Founder’s Story

Growing up with sisters, I saw firsthand how much periods could affect their daily lives. The discomfort, the mood swings, the cravings—these weren’t just things they dealt with; they were real struggles that often went unnoticed by the people around them, including me. Like many guys, I didn’t fully understand what they were going through. I knew periods happened, but I never considered how much support—physical, emotional, and mental—they really needed.

As I got older, I started paying more attention. I noticed how difficult it was for them to run out of products unexpectedly or how a bad cramp could ruin their day. I also realized how little men were taught about menstruation and how uncomfortable some people felt even talking about it. Why was something so natural still treated as taboo? More importantly, why weren’t partners, friends, and family members more involved in showing care and support?

That’s when the idea for Period Bae was born. I didn’t just want to create a subscription box—I wanted to create a way to normalize conversations about periods and encourage partners to be more engaged in the experience.

More Than Just a Box

At its core, Period Bae is about comfort, care, and connection. Each box is thoughtfully curated to help alleviate discomfort, whether it’s with self-care products, period essentials, or snacks to satisfy cravings. The goal is simple: make that time of the month a little easier so no one has to scramble for supplies or suffer in silence.

But beyond the products, Period Bae is a reminder that no one should go through their period alone. It’s an opportunity for partners to show up, whether by gifting a box, checking in, or simply being more understanding. A small gesture—like having products ready at home or acknowledging how someone feels—can go a long way in making them feel seen and supported.

Changing the Conversation Around Periods

For too long, menstruation has been treated as something people should “just deal with.” But it’s time for that mindset to change. Periods are a natural part of life, and they should be talked about openly, without stigma or embarrassment.

By creating Period Bae, I hope to shift the way we think about period care—not just as a necessity, but as an opportunity to bring more empathy, understanding, and appreciation into relationships. Whether you menstruate or love someone who does, this is your chance to be part of the change.
